I’m an author whose first book was published in 1997 by Windswept House, a small regional press in Mt. Desert, Maine. When the company went out of business and the original rights to the first edition of The Tangram Zoo and Word Puzzles Too! were returned to this author, I decided to check out local publishing houses and self-publishing as well. In the process I discovered CreateSpace—a self-publishing affiliate of Amazon—and decided to give it a whirl. I had been an editor and desktop publisher for several years before embarking on a teaching career. Self-publishing doesn’t have to be a ‘go it alone’ experience. There are abundant resources available locally and online (excerpt and article link below) to help you get your own book(s) in print and on the way to readers. ~ Bette A. Stevens

Thanks for some great info which is sorely needed since I am going to try to self-publish my short stories as singles on Kindle and my Collection of short fiction and non-fiction. needless to say, I am terrifyed as I may well destroy Amazon’s whole system. I’m passing thison eto another frined who is thinking of also becoming Indie, since as small press we really practicallyare anyway but don’t get to keep the profits.

Hi, Micki. So glad you found the info here helpful. I’m an Amazon fan, despite all of the static on the web. Personally, I use CreateSpace and publish my paperback versions first; from there, you can opt to have the paperback converted by KDP to create a kindle version. However, CreateSpace offers so many wonderful ‘how to’ posts, that I’m always learning something new. It is quite a journey. Costs are minimal as well. I’m sure looking forward to reading your next book. Happy writing! ❤
