“Oscar Wilde said that if you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it – that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything. There is a truth to that. We are not nouns, we are verbs. I am not a thing – an actor, a writer – I am a person who does things – I write, I act – and I never know what I am going to do next. I think you can be imprisoned if you think of yourself as a noun.” ― Stephen Fry

  7. I like that thought. Being a verb, not a noun. Maybe I’m an adverb, modifying a verb.

  8. Very thought provoking post, Bette. It’s what we do, not what we are. Hugs, dear friend. I hope you’re having a wonderful summer.

    • Thanks, Michelle. Summer is flying by and we’re trying to capture gems of it each day. Had a lovely beach getaway day with daughter and granddaughter (18) yesterday. It was absolutely perfect! Also, have been capturing butterflies among other natural beauties with my camera here at The Farmstead. Hope your summer is sensational too! 🙂 xo

      • It has been unrelentingly unbearable here. Our July temperatures have been way above normal. That said, I’ve really had to work hard to keep my flowers alive and healthy looking. We have been busy which is why I have been lax on my blog, my reading, and visiting other blogs. We have a large home filled with a lifetime of everything from treasures to stuff to junk. Just going through everything and getting ready to move to a much smaller home is time consuming. When I’ve gone through everything, I think I’ll have to go back and take another look. We are going from nearly 5000 sq. ft. to a 1700 sq. ft. patio home. I am very excited about the move, but there is so much to do between now and then that we’ve had little time for summer trips. We hope to make a trip to Boston (time permitting) to visit family after our current home sells. Your beach getaway sounds lovely. We haven’t had as many butterflies this summer. I’m wondering if the extreme heat has chased them off.
