Aside

After three glorious days of 40 degree temperatures, the snow pack in the fields and front yard is beginning to melt at the farmstead in Central Maine. In fact, this was the first day I didn’t have to don ice cleats to walk safely down the driveway to the mailbox—the sun was shining and nary a cloud in the sky. By late afternoon the sky was telling another story. What stories are the skies telling you? ~Bette A. Stevens, Maine author

    Thanks to the Senior Salon I’m getting to meet you here. I love the haiku and remember exploring the form with 4th graders many years ago.

    I live in Florida and have heard reports of snow in the northeast where my sister lives. You are right though, spring is waiting to burst forth under that mantle of snow.

    This is a lovely haiku, Bette, and rich in imagery. Our weather is having second thoughts about bouncing into to spring. We are back to cold, grey, with a chance of snow. We don’t get many beautiful snows such as you have. Ours tend to be just a couple of inches over ice. Crazy weather! I’m counting down to spring! Much love and hugs, dear friend.

      Thank you, Noelle. Fortunately, no snow tornado here… Winds have been wild for several days, but we’ve still got power and the snow pack is slowly shrinking. Maybe that’s a good sign that mud season will be short. We’re in that change of seasons mode. 🙂 Have a beautiful week! ❤ xo

    Love the haiku. Is anything more hopeful than March? Here in my corner of northern California, according to the daffodils, spring is definitely arrived, even if we did get a little snow last week. Glad to hear it’s warming up where you are, too. 🙂
