A writer inspired by nature and human nature

Here in The Pine Tree State, we’re celebrating Maine’s Bicentennial—that’s right, our beautiful state will be 200 years old on March 15, 2020.

Here on my blog, I’ll be celebrating Maine through poetry all year long… Let me know if you’d like to join in. Blogger friend Jim at USFMAN kicks off the New Year with three great haiku poems and photos from one of his Maine adventures at Acadia National Park! Check out Jim’s blog for more of his awesome adventures! ~ Bette A. Stevens https://www.4writersandreaders.com

About James Rogge

James embarked on a  teaching career for over thirty years in the challenging multicultural setting of South Florida that included tenured assignments as a History/English teacher and Reading /ESL professor. Now retired, James enjoys his hard earned freedom these days by practicing yoga, pursuing photography, writing/reading  blogs and traveling with his wife over six months a year. Snippets of a Traveling Mind

“In every walk with nature, one receives more than he seeks.”(John Muir)

Hello Bloggers:

I recently learned from one of my favorite blog followers that 2020 marks Maine’s celebratory Bicentennial year. As I considered her offer to share my own visions of Maine as part of this effort, I immediately recalled hundreds of iPhone pictures I’d taken of Acadia National Park and the nearby Bar Harbor region during our recent Maine cruise travels. Logically, the time seems right for my latest blog to take a fresh look at my blog writing skills and “fire up” some original Haikus about the inspiring natural beauty of this American region.

I thus share three poems below for your imaginative pleasure. Happy New Year USFMAN

  1. Bette, I believe you subscribed to my blog last week, as I have to yours.
However, it looks as thought the subscription is for “plainandfancygirl.wordpress.com.”
My current website is https://marianbeaman.com . . . just in case there was a mixup.

Stay warm and cozy these days!

  3. MAINE HISTORY BIT: Maine was originally a province in The Massachusetts Bay Colony. Maine was part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until 1820, when it voted to secede from Massachusetts to become a separate state. On March 15, 1820, under the Missouri Compromise, it was admitted to the Union as the 23rd state as a Free State (vs. Slave State). 🙂 Thanks for your thoughtful question, Robbie! xo

  4. I would have thought Maine was older than 200 years, Bette. Was it part of another state before or did it exist under another name?

    For today, and every day..

    • Thank you, Rosaliene. For me, Maine is poetry… I wrote my first poem in 1974, the year we moved to Maine as back-to-the-landers.” I’m still in love with The Pine Tree State and feel blessed to be a Mainer. Maine is a place that enlivens the senses and soothes the soul. ❤ May 2020 be a year overflowing with blessings for you and yours!

  10. Thank you for sharing your exciting celebration news, Bette. I’m sending you a Haiku that you are welcome to use. I tried my hand at it, and this is what I came up with just for the occasion. Hope you like it.

Keeping watch by day and night,
    Warning of danger.

Love your book. It still sits on our coffee table so we can pick it up and enjoy a poem or two anytime.

      • You mean the two lighthouses? I thought that was another lighthouse across the water when I found a picture of the Cape Elizabeth. It was a google find so I didn’t download it. Glad you liked the Haiku. 🙂
