Here in The Pine Tree State, we’re celebrating Maine’s Bicentennial—that’s right, our beautiful state will be 200 years old on March 15, 2020.

Here on my blog, I’ll be celebrating Maine through poetry all year long… Let me know if you’d like to join in. From his adolescence as an idealistic product of the Civil Rights movement to his ambitious pursuits as a dedicated college student and later professional educator, James Rogge has been inspired to find positive energy from the present moment in his personal/professional undertakings. James embarked on a  teaching career for over thirty years in the challenging multicultural setting of South Florida that included tenured assignments as a History/English teacher and Reading /ESL professor. Hello Bloggers:

I recently learned from one of my favorite blog followers that 2020 marks Maine’s celebratory Bicentennial year. As I considered her offer to share my own visions of Maine as part of this effort, I immediately recalled hundreds of iPhone pictures I’d taken of Acadia National Park and the nearby Bar Harbor region during our recent Maine cruise travels. Logically, the time seems right for my latest blog to take a fresh look at my blog writing skills and “fire up” some original Haikus about the inspiring natural beauty of this American region.

I thus share three poems below for your imaginative pleasure. Happy New Year USFMAN

    MAINE HISTORY BIT: Maine was originally a province in The Massachusetts Bay Colony. Maine was part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until 1820, when it voted to secede from Massachusetts to become a separate state. On March 15, 1820, under the Missouri Compromise, it was admitted to the Union as the 23rd state as a Free State (vs. Slave State). 🙂 Thanks for your thoughtful question, Robbie! xo

For me, Maine is poetry… I wrote my first poem in 1974, the year we moved to Maine as back-to-the-landers.” I’m still in love with The Pine Tree State and feel blessed to be a Mainer. Maine is a place that enlivens the senses and soothes the soul. ❤ May 2020 be a year overflowing with blessings for you and yours!

        You mean the two lighthouses? I thought that was another lighthouse across the water when I found a picture of the Cape Elizabeth. It was a google find so I didn’t download it. Glad you liked the Haiku. 🙂

      I was thrilled that Jim jumped in to help celebrate with his photos and awesome haiku poems. Maine is a treasure trove of nature to those of us who live here and those who come to visit. The Pine Tree State remains”The Way Life Should Be” to me.So glad we’re back to that unique place we are proud to call home. Wonderful to hear you’ve dded it to your Bucket List, Eugenia!     Thanks for sharing, Bette. We were at Acadia a few years ago and it was so lovely. I could have stayed forever. We also stayed in Portsmouth for a few days. That was an interesting spot, too. Love and hugs, dear friend.

    Congrats to Maine, Bette. We’re excited for Plymouth’s quadricentennial this year. Will be up in Maine in June for a brief three day stop to sell books!
