September 1, 2014: Labor Day and summer is quickly coming to a close in Central Maine. Berries have been 'jammed', pickles are in the making and long summer days will soon give way to crisp autumn winds, apples and toasty wood fires for warmth. As much as I love the four seasons, I always seem to miss summer the most! ~ Bette A. Stevens

Mama, I Miss You

Happy Birthday, Mama! Seven years ago today, I called Mama to wish her a Happy Birthday and, as usual, we talked for hours. It was the last birthday we got to ‘celebrate’ together. Mama left us for her heavenly home the following April and there hasn’t been a day since that I haven’t thought about her and missed her. Today would have been her 78th birthday. Mama’s strength of character, her poise, wit and unconditional love live on within all those whose lives she touched. The photograph (circa 1951) is of Mama and me and was taken in California. Happy Birthday, Mama. I miss you...

Final Performance

by Bette A. Stevens © 8/29/2012

While asters, purple tutus donned

With velvet yellow crowns

Ballet to cricket violins,

Sway tiptoe in their gowns;

A golden orb in treetops rests

The stage a soft pale blue

And I among their audience

Too soon must say, “Adieu!”

On my nature walks, I sometimes take a small pad and pencil and jot down word picture nuggets for my poems.  ~Bette A. Stevens

September Morning

North winds whisk the clouds away

Towering  trees in fall array

Purples, golds and fiery reds

All throughout Maine’s forests spread

Brook’s a place where minnows play

Dart past leaves that drift and sway

Bluejays chat, expounding tales

Of summer past and coming gales

Starched white towers climb the sky

Reminding all that autumn’s nigh

The Ice Crystal Robe

~Poem by Bette A. Stevens © January 1, 2013~

The Ice Crystal Robe

Royal Finery,

glistening diamond ropes

embellish bare arms.

Her ice crystal robe

disappears by mid-morning.

Lilac stands naked.

  7. So many wonderful works! Have you ever considered publishing them individually so that bloggers can view them one at a time or do you prefer having them all accessible on one page?

    • Thanks for stopping by for a visit, Kayla Ann and for your lovely compliment and apt question. All of these and more are published in blog posts as well. Time for me to do some housekeeping on the blog. I’m near ready to publish my first poetry book–My Maine, Haiku through the Seasons–and have another collection in the works as well. ♥ Have an amazing week!

  9. Bette, what a wonderful collage of your writing and art. You should consider making greeting cards out of some of them. They would be wonderful.

    • Hi, Brigid. Thanks for your thoughtful suggestion about greeting card. It’s something I hadn’t thought of before, so I’ve jotted that down on my to-do list–what a brilliant idea! I’ve been working (slowly) on putting a poetry collection together and I think that offering greeting cards or post cards as well would be swell. ❤ You're awesome, my friend! xoxoxo…

  12. Hi, The last comment I made was from the old site who is no longer valid.

I have a favor that I ask for all my friends (I’m contacting more than 1000 of my friends, because they couldn’t find me)

If you have no trouble opening my site you can ignore this message.
I messed up my site link. I made a little change and got in big trouble.
My old site (deleted, that’s why you can’t find me anymore)

My new site is The Shower of Blessings (the “s” is in different place, so is the link)
    The new link is https://theshowerofblessings.wordpress.com

You may have to click the new link and follow my new site again in order to see me show up in your Reader.

Sorry for the trouble. Thank you, Miriam

  13. Hi, Bette, thank you for your follow and led me to find you. Finding you is a discovery of treasure. I started out as a teacher for 15 years, then went on to be school district administrator. I love reading and writing. I like all kinds of writing. I used your “I write like…” and input different text, they came out with different ID. I do put myself in different mode when I write for different contents. I follow back to read most of your post.
