From inside my house today, I’m pretty sure I saw a monarch butterfly fluttering about my yard. This is an occurrence that I look forward to twice a year. For you see from April through June monarchs leave their habitats in groves of fir trees deep in Mexico or in the ancient Mayan ruins of Palenque to begin a journey as far north as southern Canada and in so doing fly over our area. Sadly the monarch’s numbers have decreased tremendously because of the ongoing shrinking of their habitats and the poisoning by farmers of milkweeds (Asclepias) along their flyway. However, I’m still seeing a measure of them every year, and finding these colorful nomadic wanderers in my garden has always been a delightful rite of passage in their dramatic migrations.   1. Butterflies are a wonderful gift to the world. Our botanical garden has a butterfly exhibit every year in the spring with butterflies from all over the world. It is fabulous.

  2. Our butterfly bush has been flooded with the winged wonders. It is truly awesome to witness…as are the little hummingbirds that frequent our red feeder. Amazing stuff. Oh, and did I mention the two new front teeth my nine-month old granddaughter is sprouting? There’s definitely a God… 🙂

  3. My milk weed did not thrive. The lack of rain is at the root of many issues nowadays.

    • Our milkweed (along with many of our vegetable and berry plants) here really didn’t look as healthy this year either. Of course, we don’t water and our rainfall levels has been well below normal since June. Let’s hope all of our wells and recharge areas get replenished. Hope your new well is serving you ‘well’… And, hope you and Garry and well and wish you a ‘Very Happy Anniversary’, which I recall is coming up soon. 😊❤️💙💚💛💜😊 Hugs & love, Bette

  5. I just realized what the quote meant right before I read the whole post. What marvelous creatures to have their journey embedded within their genes so that they can make the trip back and forth through generations.

    • Monarchs are the only butterflies known to migrate…Absolutely amazing from egg to imago, from generation to generation. May the Master’s marvels continue to bless us! ❤
