Getting people — and kids, in particular — to read and write has long been a passion of mine. You may remember my post, Reading Tricks for Kids of Any Age, originally written for Mom’s Favorite Reads.

Well, I recently came across an article by Abigail Elijah of Knowledge Isle with 20 tips for developing your kid’s writing skills which inspired me to write up a new post, this one on the subject of getting your child to write. I hope you find these tips useful!

National Get Caught Reading Month

IMG_4052Reading with children is a great investment in their future and the world’s! ~ Bette A. Stevens, Maine author/illustrator http://www.4writersandreaders.com

Promote LITERACY!  Promote READING to CHILDREN!  Promote GIVING CHILDREN EVERY ADVANTAGE in LIFE from the GET-GO!  If these statements have you shouting YES! YES! YES!, then you will want to take part in National Get Caught Reading Month, May 2016. This was the brainchild of Pat Schroeder, the former congresswoman, and President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Association of Publishers (AAP) back in 1999, when the initiative was launched.

Hello world!

Welcome to my home… This is where I do my blogging! It’s a quiet, peaceful, simple place where my husband Dan and I enjoy our retirement. When I’m not writing (or blogging), gardening or taking trips to the coast, I’m helping with the renovation of our 37-acre farmstead. It’s a great place to do “all of the things we love to do”!

I’m a Maine author/illustrator who loves nature and literature. As a former teacher, I’ll have tips on improving literacy among our youth, reading tips and recommendations for all ages, features from other authors, writing tips and some questions and polls to get everyone actively involved in Living, Loving and Learning through Literature! As a writer, I’ll have my books, short stories and poetry to share. I’m brand new to the world of blogging… but its potential is enormous for keeping us all connected. I’m excited to be an infinitesimal part of this vast literary resource.

Happy reading, writing and blogging!

Bette
