About the author
Inspired by nature and human nature, author Bette A. Stevens is a retired elementary and middle school teacher, a wife, mother of two and grandmother of five. Stevens lives in Central Maine with her husband on their 37-acre farmstead where she enjoys reading, writing, gardening, walking and reveling in the beauty of nature. She advocates for children and families, for childhood literacy and for the conservation of monarch butterflies—an endangered species (and for milkweed, the only plant that monarch caterpillars will eat).
Stevens is the author of AMAZING MATILDA, an award-winning picture book; The Tangram Zoo and Word Puzzles Too!, a home/school resource incorporating hands-on math and writing; and PURE TRASH, the short story prequel to her début novel, DOG BONE SOUP—coming-of-age story and family drama set in 1950s and 60s New England.

Bette, I wish there was a PERFECT button for me to push. Also, could you send some of that weather south to New Jersey.

Dear Bernadette,
Your sweet comment added a glorious ray of sunshine to a dull and rainy (finally/we desperately need it) day! 🙂 Grateful for the rain and sending hugs and rays of sunshine to brighten your dreary days. HOPE they’ve ARRIVED and prepared to stay with you for awhile! xo

Lovely metaphor, Bette. Our parade has consisted mostly of stragglers so far this year. Very odd autumn – but my memories were activated by your lovely haiku.

Re: Polldaddy link. Now that your attention is brought to it, you will note it on other comments as well – always the same link, always polldaddy, and always garbage when you click it – so just don’t, unless you want to put some attention on making it go away on SOME comments only.
I went through this with several readers and jumped through some hoops “backstage” to get rid of it — but folks who have not done similar still see it and display it, and will occasionally click and ask about it.
I don’t generally don’t leave links on people’s blogs, so if you don’t want this one here, ‘sokay by me if you don’t approve it (or delete it). Either way, Save the link for when someone asks you. It will happen.
Chris (StoryReadingApe.com) has a post on his blog that explains how to do it — he does NOT see it on my comments since both of us have done it, but I still get the question from time to time from bloggers who don’t follow him or missed that post.
How To Get Rid of Polldaddy Link: if the Polldaddy link on your comments are annoying you, here’s how to get rid of them

My pleasure Bette. Glad I didn’t offend you with the temerity of the post. The link is set to open in a new window/tab, so as not to take folks away from your blog.

Bette, if a url for polldaddy appeared with my comment, delete it. It’s showing in my WP notifications, and I’ve no idea where it came from. It also showed on a comment I made on another blog. I checked their website, and it’s powered by WP, so I’m going to let WP know about this.

Wonderful haiku and photograph, Bette…the ‘medley of colors’ of this season is a true delight and heartwarming for the soul. I love you image of the trees marching in a parade…I can easily visualise this! 😀❤️

Bette, it has been beautiful often but so far this has been the oddest start to Autumn for a long while. Some days almost summer warmth…then gales and cold the next…the trees seem to be turning at different times so not quite the stunning display of previous years. I always enjoy your Autumn photos and gasp in awe on seeing them. 😀

Ditto… Hope we can get together again one of these days! So enjoyed our time together. Temps near 70 today and it’s been an unbelievably warm fall, but the wind is blowing and leaves are dancing on their way to the ground. Hope you’re enjoying a lovely day too! ❤ xoxoxo…
