Halloween—Witch’s Familiar

In European folklore and folk-belief of the Medieval and Early Modern periods, familiar spirits (sometimes referred to simply as “familiars” or “animal guides”) were believed to be supernatural entities that would assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic. According to the records of the time, they would appear in numerous guises, often as an animal.

The main purpose of familiars is to serve the witch or young witch, providing protection for them as they come into their new powers.

  1. Making Halloween fun! 🙂 Thanks for the follow on I Write Her. I appreciate it. 🙂

  2. A thoroughly delightful post. This looks like so much fun for young, creative minds!

  3. Very nice–revisit this on Halloween (just two days away!)

  4. Awww. Zippy and Zappy make such soft and adorable familiars, Bette. And what great names for story characters! Sounds like a fun challenge. Happy Halloween. 🙂

  5. Happy Halloween dear Bette! You are awesome. Love and hugs.

  6. How fun, Bette! I wish I had more time to participate, too, but am in the middle of creating a recipe book for my daughter who just moved to Nashville. 🙂 So many projects in my head right now and not enough time. Same song for many, I suppose. Much love to you, my friend. 💗💗💗

  7. This book looks like it has some fun ideas, Bette.

  8. Thanks for sharing, Bette! I loved Zippy and Zappy!

  9. Many Thanks Bette, for showcasing my Halloween book on your fabulous page.

    • A pleasure having you share with us, Wendy. I love your writing prompt series and have Tails on my reading stack and look forward to a great read there as well. 💀🕷🎃 Happy Halloween! xo

      • That’s lovely Bette, I wrote Tails for my son, and when he was younger it was fantastic reading the story to him each night. Made my day, when he’d beg for one more chapter. “Mum, you can’t stop there!”

  10. What fun, Bette. These look like great competitions. If only I had more time. 🙂

  11. I so love Zippy & Zappy!

  12. Reblogged this on Serendipity – Seeking Intelligent Life on Earth and commented:
Bette Stevens works incredibly hard to promote indie authors. She does GREAT work too on trying to help save the Monarch butterfly.

  13. I never enter these contests. I have MOUNTAINS of books I need to read and review and I have no TIME anymore. I love what you do on your blog. You are like a virtual tour for everyone. It’s an amazing achievement. I really wish I had more time to read. I make time for a couple of authors whose books don’t translate into audio — yours is one of them. Mostly, I listen because I can listen while I do other things — like fix photos — or cook. I’ll reblog this, just to get your ball rolling better!

    • I haven’t tried audio books yet… Always have two books going–one print and one digital. Just finished Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly and highly recommend it! Have an awesome week. The Nor’easter only left us with an inch of snow and it’s all melted away. Yay! 🎃 xo
