Have an Amazing New Year!

May your days be blessed and beautiful

May your nights, sweet dreams supply

May your New Year be amazing

As a monarch butterfly

Learn about Monarch Butterflies

Bette in her garden with one of the monarch butterflies that emerged from its chrysalis at the farmstead in central Maine.

Monarch butterflies offer an amazing view into the intricate nature of the wild. Their scientific name—Danaus Plexippus— Greek for “Sleepy Transformation,” gets part of the story right, but not the epic whole. Monarch butterflies embark on an amazing migratory phenomenon as they have the ability to hibernate and metamorphose.  International conservation efforts to protect and restore monarch habitat are ongoing. These efforts may help improve the near-endangered/endangered status of the species; but we, as ordinary citizens, can easily help the monarch butterfly recovery right in our own backyards and gardens.

Wishing all of you and our amazing monarch butterflies…
“An Amazing New Year!”

  5. I have just discovered your blog Bette, and I am enjoying it so far. Though poetry is not my photo, it really does feel like you have a way with poetry and haikus 🙂 Your passion for monarch butterflies also shines through. Here in Australia we only get a handful of these species in our gardens, but they always light up any place when they are around. Hope you have had a good start to the year, and looking forward to seeing more from you this year 🙂

    • Thanks so much for your visit and lovely note, Mabel. We enjoyed a banner year here at the farmstead and hope to have many more. US West Coast monarchs did not fare so well… We’re under the spell of the Winter Wizard right now–hope you are enjoying a beautiful summer. May your New Year be overflowing with blessings! <3

      • The Winter Wizard sounds like it’s lingering in your part of the world. Hopefully you do stay warm and stay safe. We’re on a heatwave right now in Australia, and I’m lapping it up. Hope you are having a good day <3

  6. So much to achieve this year, Bette! We can but try 🙂 🙂 Thanks for hopping over to mine.

    • Those almond blossoms captured me, Jo… Like you, I like to walk leisurely and capture the beauty of all that surrounds us. Walking alone with camera and notepad in my fanny pack, I can’t help but get inspired! <3 Thanks for the visit and note! May the wonders abound for all of us in 2019!

  7. Thank you, Bette, for visiting my blog earlier today. Happy 2019 to you!

    • Thank you, Darlene. <3 Really enjoyed AMANDA in NEW MEXICO and will write reviews on Amazon and Goodreads this week. HAPPY NEW YEAR! xo

  12. I’ve been so sad reading about the lower numbers of Monarchs in our world. When I lived in the SF bay area, in the early spring my friend and I would walk around Belvedere Island to a tiny street rarely known about, and there, on a smallish busy tree, fluttered hundreds and hundreds of Monarchs. Every year. What a gift that sighting was every year!
To the Monarchs, to our beautiful world, and to the New Year, Bette. xo

  13. May you receive many blessings in 2019, Bette. Hugs ❤️

  14. Lovely post, Bette. Happy New Year to you , too!
