On my 55th birthday after observing the Leonid meteor shower, I  wrote this haiku. The following day, I shared it with my fifth grades students and after some celestial research, the students wrote their own “Heavenly Haiku” poems.

    I love Haiku. I’ve heard there’s supposed to be some formal format / structure to Haiku.
    I’ve written some that I call Haiku, but I pay no attention to any rules.
    I don’t figure art should have any format but beauty.
    And I think the greatest works of Art – in any form – move us in a spiritual way – add something to us.

      Thank you Natalie. The show was spectacular and I had so much fun with my students that week. They did a little research of their choice on the solar system and came up with their own wonderful haikus too. Blessings right back to you, Bette

    I think Haikus are wonderful as they really make you think of every single word in its 7-5-7 syllable format. Yours was quite vivid.

    Here’s my endeavor on the same Heavenly theme as yours

    A Wishful Night

    A Shooting star passes by.
    A wish must be made.
    Only time will make it true.

      Hi, Robin. I like your poem and it’s theme that captures the viewer! Haiku 5-7-5 is one of my favorite forms, but I adore poetry in any form. I call poems stories in a nugget. Thanks for stopping b and taking time to write A Wishful Night. May yours be magical!

        OOPS !!! You’re right Haiku is 5-7-5. I had a momentary loss of memory and I transpose posed the numbers and got 7-5-7.

        THANKS for the compliment regarding my poem, either way the numeric restrictions does force anyone attempting to write to really think about the words they use to form a single cohesive story idea.

    How fortunate I was to have my birthday celebrated by the stars… It was truly inspirational. I’ll be watching the links to see how Leonid performs this years.
