MAMA I Miss you POEMWishing everyone a “Happy Mother’s Day” and sharing a poem written in 2014 to celebrate my beautiful mother on her birthday. ~Bette A. Stevens, Maine author/illustrator

It will be nine years ago on August 8, 2007, when I called Mama to wish her a Happy Birthday and, as usual, we talked for hours. It was the last birthday we got to ‘celebrate’ together. Mama left us for her heavenly home the following April and there hasn’t been a day since that I haven’t thought about her and missed her. Mama’s strength of character, her poise, wit and unconditional love live on within all those whose lives she touched. The photograph (circa 1951) of Mama and me was taken in California.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mama. I miss you.

  1. My mom died in 1983. I still miss her. A lovely and loving tribute. I thank you.

  2. What a loving and sweet tribute to your mother. My mother also passed seven years ago. Sending you and warm thoughts.

  3. So, so sweet, Bette! Hugs, Natalie 🙂

    • Thanks for the visit and note, Natalie. Really focusing on my wonderful Mama, made her birthday special for me. There’s nothing like being there, but remembering is special too! ❤ Bette

  4. I love this poem! I relate to it also. Losing my mom was the hardest loss I’ve ever experienced even though I knew that she was with God. I feel her around me too! Thank you, Bette! Where in Maine do you live? Do you know of an Island in Casco Bay called Chebeague? Just thought I’d ask.

    • Hi, Carol. Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit and for sharing your thoughts. I miss Mama every day, but know that she is also with God and that gives comfort. We live in Hartland (Central Maine) between Bangor and Augusta via I-95. I have heard of Chebeague Island, but have not been there. Do you live there or come from Maine? I believe that someone in our local Book Discussion Group mentioned that there is a book about the island. Now I want to find out more. Blessings, Bette 🙂

  5. What a beautiful poem and tribute to your mother. It is difficult to lose a parent and I still miss mine after 11 years (my mom) & 14 years (my dad). May you have a lovely day tomorrow. Your mom will be with you in spirit. Blessings & hugs!

  6. So beautiful, dear Bette. Thank you for it.

  7. Gorgeous. Teared up a little.

  8. Beautiful! Straight from the heart…

  9. Lovely! Moms are special as that! They have a ‘perfect song’ for all occasions and keep singing in our hearts. 🙂

  10. This is such a wonderful poem, Bette! It describes your feelings so perfectly. And the photograph is very lovely! Wish you a wonderful Mother´s Day and a great weekend! Sarah xoxo

  11. Beautiful Tribute Bette.

  12. Lovely sentiments! 🙂

  13. A beautiful tribute to your mom, Bette. Simply beautiful. 🙂 I signed up too. Grin.

  14. Beautiful poem to and for your mother, Bette. The lovely person you are surely made her proud 🙂

  15. That is lovely! Thank you so much for sharing this and for being a part of Booknificent Thursday this week.

  16. This is beautiful. My grandmother died the Christmas before last, and I considered a tribute to her, but I think I need a little more distance. I wrote a biography for her funeral, filled with my love and immediate loss, but I’d like to write something shorter, for those who didn’t know her. Your tribute is perfect. 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Cathleen. So sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother. I’ve written a poem about one of my grandmothers, “Grandma’s Legacy.” Grandma was a pure gem. For me, writing about loved ones keeps them close. Blessings and love to you! ❤

  17. Wonderful poem and sentiment. XO
