A writer inspired by nature and human nature

National Poetry Month is coming to a close and spring has finally arrived here at The Farmstead in central Maine. After three consecutive days of sunshine with temperatures in the 50s—followed by two days of rain—blossoms are sending out official invitations. Needless to say, we’re dressed for the occasion and heading outdoors to attend the reception.

These glorious daffodils (photo) in our front garden inspired me to write “Springtime Reception” and we’re more than ready to join the party.

Happy Spring!

The daffodils are lovely, as is your haiku that you wrote to accompany them. And really, does anything say spring quite like a daffodil? 🙂

Oh, those daffodils! 🙂 Ours are dancing to spring’s tune along the walkway… We’ve had rain and sunshine and the world is looking glorious and we’re singing along. Have a spectacular weekend, Cathleen! xoxoxo

And a very happy Springtime to you, too! The poem expresses it beautifully:)). That said, it’s blowing a hoolie outside and the wind is knifing through woolies and coats, instead of having the good manners to blow around them…

Glorious – your daffodils and your haiku. Every year when the daffodils first bloom, EVERY YEAR, I release a sigh and realize I shouldn’t have complained so much about winter. Really, I shouldn’t have. Look what we get for our pains…. the incredible mighty beautifully yellow daffodil. xo

Happy spring to you, Bette. I haven’t planted any daffodils yet, but I will for next year. My husband gave me a pot of tulips when I was in the hospital for some emergency situation. It would be my first time planting tulips also, it’s done flowering. 🙂

I love it! Daffodils are the first flowers that bloom here in the spring. In fact they have already come and gone, so it’s refreshing to see your photo and read your poem. Blessing to you! xoxo

Aren’t daffodils so welcoming? I love spring, but in California we joke how spring only lasts one week. I guess that’s why I treasure it so.

Daffodils are our first profusion of blooms her at the farmstead, Jen. We lived in California (Mojave and Lompoc) from 1994 through 2001, so I can truly appreciate the thrill of your short season too–oh, how glorious it is! ❤ Nature's gem bedazzle us wherever we are… ❤ Enjoy the glory of that California Gold. We did get out to the Poppy Preserve one year and that was quite a lovely adventure. Happy every day, my friend. xo

Oh, yes! The poppies are truly a sweet sight in the spring-ish summer. 😉 I found a stash near my house one day and delighted in telling my children all about them.
